Les Contes d’Hoffmann

Vittorio Grigolo and Matthew Polenzani take turns playing the tortured poet and unwitting adventurer of the title. Hibla Gerzmava faces the operatic hurdle of singing all three heroines for the first six performances, with Audrey Luna, Susanna Phillips, and Elena Maximova stepping in later in the run. Thomas Hampson sings the Four Villains, and James Levine and Yves Abel conduct Offenbach’s sparkling score.
